Google Search Console, formerly known as Google Webmasters is a free, powerful tool created by Google for SEO’s and webmasters. It provides a ton of data & insights including top queries / keywords driving traffic to your website, top pages ranking higher in Google search results, mobile usability issues, index & coverage issues with your website.

Here are 3 simple Google Search Console hacks to boost organic traffic to your website:

Tip #1: Performance –> Queries Report

In the queries report, you can get the top keywords that are driving traffic to your website. Export this list of keywords and find keywords that have a low Avg. Position. Now, try to use these keywords more often in the content of your web pages. As you will increase keyword density for low ranking keywords, the pages which use these keywords will start moving up the pecking order.

Tip #2: Performance –> Pages Report

Similar to the queries report, the pages report shows the top pages that are getting traffic from Google. You can simply export the top 100 pages that are getting traffic and sort this list by CTR, Avg. Position and Clicks. You can then filter this list by considering pages which have CTR% less than the overall CTR% and pages which have an Avg. Pos of >10 (Our goal is to get the pages that rank on the 2nd page of Google results to move up and show on the 1st page of SERPs).

As an action item, you should be looking at improving content and structure of the low-performing pages. Look at adding more content (ideally a page should have 1000+ words of content), building internal links, adding schema, improving page load time and making sure that the page is mobile responsive.

Tip #3: Mobile usability Report

The mobile usability report tells us errors reported by Google Mobile Bot while crawling the website. Most common errors include “Clickable elements too close to each other” and “Content wider than screen”. You can adjust the pages on mobile by making changes to the CSS as well as having larger and lesser CTAs for mobile web pages.
